To date, a total of 83 compounds have been isolated and identified from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.), predominantly polyphenols, including xanthones, anthocyanins, phenolic acids, condensed tannins and other categoriesPMC. Among them, 61 xanthone?type compounds have been discovered from mangosteen. The main phenolic acids are p?hydroxybenzoic acid, m?hydroxybenzoic acid and their derivatives. Major anthocyanins include cyanidin?3?O?sophoroside and cyanidin?3?O?glucoside. Condensed tannins are mainly oligomers composed of afzelechin, catechin and epicatechin.
