The natural sources of polydatin are concentrated in a variety of plants. The most important raw material for its extraction is Polygonum cuspidatum—a herbaceous plant with a long history of application in traditional Chinese medicine, where the rhizome part has a relatively high polydatin content. Additionally, small amounts of polydatin are also found in grapevines, peanut skins, Polygonum multiflorum (he shou wu), and other plants.
At present, the application of polydatin is mainly concentrated in the scientific research field, where it is a common research object in natural medicinal chemistry and pharmacology. Meanwhile, it is also used in small quantities as a raw material in health products and cosmetics (based on its antioxidant properties). However, it should be noted that the efficacy claims of relevant products must comply with regulatory requirements and cannot replace drugs for disease treatment.
